Penelope Roskell is the foremost UK specialist in helping injured pianists to resume healthy piano playing and has helped innumerable pianists recover from injury.

Her major new book, The Complete Pianist: from healthy technique to natural artistry, is based on Penelope’s many years of original research into all aspects of healthy piano playing. (Peters Edition, publication date: February 2020)

Penelope is Piano Educator for the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine, where she currently runs a multi-disciplinary pianists’ clinic jointly with hand surgeon Mr Mark Phillips. Although a classical pianist herself, she works there with injured pianists from all genres, including rock and music theatre.

She has produced a DVD on Yoga for Musicians and a book The Art of Piano Fingering, which explores ergonomic fingerings.

Penelope has given lectures and classes in holistic playing at many institutions, including the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, Trinity Laban, BAPAM, the ISM and Musicians Union, as well as the MSc Performing Arts Medicine course at UCL. She has been Director of the Musician’s Clinic, the ISSTIP Music Medicine Therapists course, and of the EPTA Piano Pedagogy Course. Her London workshops on healthy piano playing are attended by pianists from around the world.
